About

Our Story & Creator

KID WRITING LAB is created by Chan Li, who has 9 years’ experience as sci-tech journalist and editor in China. Chan started her new journey for MSEd at Shenandoah University in VA, and she studied in the field of individualized focus.

From a little child who disliked writing at all to an awarded science journalist enjoying writing, Chan has a deep understanding in written expression and in developing effective learning plans.

Writing Intervention Through Mapping Games, and Dyslexia Intervention Through Music Training were the two topics Chan had passions on for further research when she was studying how to teach students with special needs. She completed the initial design on the dyslexia intervention; then she started to develop the expressive writing curriculum as her MSEd course project of Directed Study, and completed it as a systematic thinking training approach for teaching writing in AI Era.

English learners and twice-exceptional students are other groups Chan is focusing on and trying to support. She created Chinese Learning Lab for Mandarin learners through self-designed curricula, and interactive DIY lessons.

Chan hopes her thoughts on children's development of literacy and cognition can help more young kids at KID WRITING LAB through sharing and communicating learning experiences, strategies and more.

Chan's honors in her journalism experience include the best work prize of the 4th Beijing Excellent Popular Science Works Award, the 2nd prize of the 18th Beijing News Award, the excellent prize of Science and Technology News of the 4th, 5th Beijing Excellent Popular Science Works Award, and more. Chan co-edited the book on popular science, 66 Great Mysteries Solved by Scientists (2005. Beijing Sci-Tech Report), and her works are collected in several biographical books about the interviews and conversations with young scientists.
